🚀 Trailer Breakdown & Key Takeaways
- Zsa-zsa Korda (Benicio del Toro) Is Not Your Average Billionaire – The trailer introduces us to Zsa-zsa, one of Europe’s richest—and most enigmatic—men. His world is filled with odd rituals, secret tunnels, and formal dinners that feel more like interrogations than meals.
- Liesl the Nun… or Heiress? – Mia Threapleton plays Liesl, Zsa-zsa’s daughter, who’s also a nun. Her stern expression, soft-spoken mystery, and unexpected alliance with Bjorn (Michael Cera) hint at a deeper plot bubbling beneath the surface.
- Michael Cera’s Bjorn Might Be the Most Relatable Character – In true Anderson fashion, Cera plays the awkward, earnest tutor caught in the middle of a wildly dysfunctional family. His dry humor and deadpan delivery bring the levity we need.
- Classic Anderson Ensemble Energy – From Jeffrey Wright’s perfectly-timed narration to Scarlett Johansson’s mysterious cameo, every moment in the trailer is packed with familiar faces in unfamiliar roles.
- A Scheme is Brewing… But What Is It? – The title The Phoenician Scheme suggests something grand and ancient, and the trailer teases coded letters, hidden vaults, and a family conspiracy that may go generations deep.
- Fan Reactions Are Already Buzzing – X (formerly Twitter) is loving the look, with fans praising Anderson’s return to ensemble storytelling and calling this “his most ambitious cast yet.”
“It’s giving The Royal Tenenbaums meets The Grand Budapest Hotel—but with more secrets and a splash of noir.”
