Frens, Verity is now playing in theaters, and I did something I rarely get the chance to do with a highly anticipated book-to-screen adaptation: I went in blind!
I never read Colleen Hoover’s bestselling psychological thriller, but my daughter did.
So, we walked into the theater with two completely different perspectives.
I had no idea what was coming, while she was watching to see how the story translated from page to screen. Verity
Did not reading the book work in my favor? You’ll have to watch my spoiler-free Verity movie review to find out.
What Is Verity About?
Dakota Johnson stars as Lowen Ashleigh, a talented but undiscovered writer who gets the opportunity to ghostwrite for renowned author Verity Crawford, played by Anne Hathaway.
Lowen relocates to the Crawford estate, where she discovers what appears to be Verity’s autobiographical manuscript filled with disturbing confessions, especially involving her husband, Jeremy Crawford, played by Josh Hartnett.
As Lowen digs deeper, the lines between truth and fiction begin to blur, and manipulation, attraction, and obsession enter the chat. Verity
Who’s Behind Verity?
Michael Showalter directs Verity, with Nick Antosca penning the screenplay based on Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel.
The cast also includes Ismael Cruz Cordova and Brady Wagner.
